January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month

We’re so honored to partner with Traffick911. We hosted a zoom call yesterday, January 10th, so you could hear more about this amazing organization and how they are fighting child sex trafficking by helping survivors embrace healing and freedom. See the recording below.

Sex trafficking is a symptom of a deeply-rooted issue: relational brokenness in our communities and survivors often fall through the cracks of established systems.

Traffick911 = Our January Cause of the Month

Traffick911 advocates take a holistic approach to building trust with trafficked youth, meeting them right where they are and walking alongside them in life as they navigate the process of healing from trauma.

Human trafficking is not just an issue that affects countries across the globe. It’s an issue that happens in communities around the US as well as places across the globe.

Their organization was founded in 2009 as a grassroots organization to find out about issues of child sex trafficking and how to best help survivors.

Check out our video, as Brett Duncan, DVTD Founder, talks to  Lindsey Speed who leads the way at Traffick911, our cause of the month.

In this video, you will see:

  • How Traffick911 walks alongside those affected by sex trafficking.
  • How sex trafficking hits closer to home than you ever imagined.
  • How sex trafficking can be spun to victims as “perceived freedom.”
  • What recovery may look like and the investment of time it requires.
  • How misinformation about Sex Trafficking can do more harm than good.
  • How you can get connected with Traffick911.
  • Hopes & dreams for the future of Traffick911.
  • How shopping with DVTD helps Traffick911.

“I just believe as humans we are created to live in proximity to others and especially in proximity to those who are broken. I would encourage you to examine your circle. Who can you get proximate to who is hurting? Maybe it’s the single mom down the street or the foster kid at church. Whatever that looks like. How can you get proximate to brokenness?”   — Lindsey Speed, Traffick911 Executive Director
