10 Things To Try In 2022
There’s something to be said about a new year. Whether it’s a clean page on your beautiful new calendar or just the thrill of having a fresh start, a new year always feels like the possibilities are endless.
Don’t get us wrong. We have no expectations of what 2022 will bring. In fact, we’re counting on both hardships and blessings, joy and sorrow. However, we also know we can choose to show up, be present and kind, and put our best self forward no matter what this year throws at us.
So with that said, we’re welcoming 2022 with open arms, a new outlook, and more ways to be bolder, brighter, and more deliberate in all that we do.
We hope you’ll join us on our journey.
Happy New Year!
1. Try Something New
Sure tried and true faves are a no-fail way to get you through your day, but discovering a new appreciation—or dare we say, love—can be rewarding!
Ready to take the plunge? Remember, time is on your side. According to experts, it may take 10-15 different times for you to discover you really like something. And, if you’re still not a fan? Pass it on to a friend or neighbor. Unless it’s turnups, they’ll probably enjoy trying something new too!
For a no-brainer, we suggest adding these to your palette.
2. Challenge Yourself
From building your confidence to meeting new people, you’ve probably heard the benefits of learning something new. But did you know that continued learning is also great for your mind? Just as exercising is good for your body, learning helps your brain stay sharp. Not to mention learning something new could also leave you feeling more accomplished, with new friends, and more involved in your community.
Not sure where to start? The sky is the limit here. Maybe you’d like to take classes to further your career, get certified in CPR, start a business, join your HOA, learn to dance, take up pickleball, learn a different language—whatever you do, make it fun, and be sure and share with us at #DVTD.
After all, you never know who else you could inspire.
3. Shop Smarter
No, we’re not talking about scouring for sales, shopping off-season, or even clipping coupons, although we’re not opposed. We’re talking about shopping with a purpose. Did you know all of your purchases on DVTD make an impact? It’s true!
There are so many companies that give back to their community and even humanitarian efforts around the world. What causes are you passionate about? What injustices keep you up at night? With a little research, you’ll find a plethora of companies that support like-minded missions. So when it comes to shopping for products you need, why not let your dollars do more and go farther?
As you may know, we only partner with companies whose products give back to an amazing cause. And, as for DVTD, we give back to a different cause every month. That means, for every purchase you make at DVTD you’re giving back to multiple organizations.
For example, if you purchase lip balm, a beanie, and a mug, you’re also giving back to anti-bullying efforts, mission and ministry efforts to spread the gospel, support for orphanages in India (as well as work opportunities for women in need), and anti-trafficking efforts and help for survivors. That’s a whole lot of giving back for your $50 purchase.
4. Invest in Yourself
To give more of yourself, you also need to take more time for yourself. Whether it’s spending time studying the gospel, reading a book, allowing yourself a guilt-free half hour to workout, or a nice bath with a scented candle, we promise, you’re worth it.
If you’re already thinking you don’t have time, we suggest (and you’ve probably heard this before) taking inventory on where all your time is spent. If the TV and your phone are getting mindless hours, there’s one place you can cut back. We promise, you’ll be glad you did.
5. Switch Up Your Style
Just like trying something new could open you up to a world of new tastes and learning something new offers new experiences, switching up your style is fun, and may even inspire you to try and learn more new things.
Whether it’s trying out a hairstyle, giving your home a touch of boho style, or trying out a new outfit, sometimes it’s the little things that help motivate us to do bigger things.
You know the saying, it’s better to give than to receive? Well, when it comes to volunteering, you can amplify that great feeling. Not only does volunteering support others, it’s a great way to improve your community, make new friends, learn new skills, and provide a sense of belonging.
There are many ways you can volunteer, and some don’t even involve leaving your house. If you’re looking for ways to lend a hand, think about where you would like to make a difference. Whether it’s your church, a local animal shelter, a food bank… there are endless nonprofits that could use your services, and with a little research, this could be life-changing for you and others.
7. Start Journaling
With the constant distractions of smartphones, video games, and anything else that keeps you from being fully present, it’s easy to lose sight of your own goals and inspirations. If you’re looking for this year to be different, journaling could help. Not only is journaling great for discovery, but it’s also perfect for setting and achieving goals.
Double Edge Notes journals are designed to help bring clarity to your every day, know God better than ever, and leave an intentional legacy. Featuring premium paper that resists bleed-through and smearing from your favorite gel pens to a lay-flat binding, numbered pages, table of contents, and more, it’s just what you need to get started. Plus, for every journal sold, Double Edge Notes distributes a Bible to a country closed to the gospel.
8. Dedicate Time To Your Hobby
Think back to something you used to love doing. Maybe it was sketching or hand lettering. Maybe it was knitting, archery, photography or even penning the next Great American Novel. Whatever it was, let 2022 be the year to embrace it. Not only are hobbies great stress relievers, but they too will help you feel accomplished while building your self confidence.
Trying a new hobby? Keep in mind, everyone starts out as a beginner, and know that practice makes progress not perfection.
9. Get Inspired
Having a plan is great, but day-to-day life and surprises can make even the best intentions hard to commit to. Know that this is going to happen and give yourself grace when it does.
For a little extra dose of motivation and inspiration leave yourself reminders of what it is you want to achieve and why it matters. Sometimes it’s just the push you need to thrive even on the toughest of days.
10. Spread Kindness
Who couldn’t benefit from a little extra kindness? Whether it’s paying for someone’s coffee, delivering a hot meal to someone in need, sharing a kind word to a stranger, or helping out a new mom, your thoughtfulness will most likely benefit someone more than you’ll ever know.
So go ahead and pay it forward!
